Senegalese grocery online: from thiéré to bissap
Thiéboudienne, mafé, yassa chicken, thiakry for dessert: Senegalese cooking relies on a few products you always keep in the cupboard. Here you will find them under their real names, from millet in all its forms to the nététou that gives sauces their depth.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between thiéré, sankhal and thiakry?
All three are millet, worked in different ways. Thiéré is rolled into fine beads for couscous, sankhal is cracked into grits for porridges such as lakh, and thiakry, with larger grains, is used for the curdled-milk dessert.
Nététou, soumbala, soumbara: is it the same product?
Yes: fermented néré seeds, dried and then ground. Senegalese cooks say nététou, Malians soumbala. Its smell is powerful and its taste deep, so you use it by the half spoonful.
