RACINES organic baobab powder is made by drying then grinding the pulp of the baobab fruit (Adansonia digitata). It dissolves in water, a juice or a smoothie, and is used in particular to prepare traditional bouye juice in Senegal. 100 g bag, certified organic.
What is baobab powder?
The baobab is an iconic tree of the West African savannahs. Its fruit, called monkey bread in English or bouye in Wolof, contains a white, tangy pulp around hard seeds. RACINES powder is made by drying then grinding this pulp, with no other ingredient. In the European Union, dried baobab fruit pulp has been authorised as a novel food ingredient since 2008.
How to use it?
Add two tablespoons of powder to a glass of water or fruit juice to recreate traditional bouye juice, sweetened to taste. It can also be mixed into a smoothie, a yoghurt or a pastry batter, at a rate of one to two tablespoons, for a tangy flavour.
What to pair it with?
It goes well with TANTIE baobab pieces for varied textures, or with RACINES organic crushed baobab. For the detailed juice recipe, see our article on bouye. The whole range: Malian cuisine.
