NUMBER ONE onion powder is a seasoning made by drying then grinding onions. It replaces fresh onion in marinades, sauces and stocks, without peeling or chopping. 100 g bag.
What is onion powder?
Onion powder is a basic condiment made by peeling, slicing and then drying onions before finely grinding them. Drying concentrates the flavour: it takes about 12 kg of fresh onions to produce 1 kg of powder. This NUMBER ONE powder, brown to beige in colour and with a fine, light texture, brings the bold taste of onion without the tears or the preparation time of fresh onion.
How to use it?
A teaspoon replaces about one average fresh onion, finely chopped, in a sauce or marinade. It is used in meat, chicken and fish marinades, to season rice, sauces and stews, or sprinkled over grilled dishes and sautéed vegetables. It suits West African cooking, such as chicken yassa, just as well as everyday recipes.
What to pair it with?
It pairs well with SAMIA garlic powder for a quick marinade base, and with NUMBER ONE fefe pepper to spice up a stew. Find it in our recipes for beef mafé and pondu, or throughout the African spices and sauces section.
