RENÉE communion chocolate is a milky cocoa and spice drink, lemon flavour, made in Guadeloupe and UHT sterilised. Ready to drink, it is reheated in a saucepan or in the microwave before serving. 1 L carton.
What is RENÉE communion chocolate?
In the Antilles, it is called “communion chocolate”: a cocoa and spice drink prepared at home, traditionally for big occasions such as a communion. The RENÉE recipe was born in 1963 in Pointe à Pitre, where the Maison Renée sold its homemade preparations in the streets, then was formalised in 2010 by Gaële Reynaud. It is now available in this ready-to-drink 1 L carton, made in Pointe à Pitre, Guadeloupe.
How do you prepare and serve it?
Before opening, keep the carton at room temperature and shake it well before opening to even out the texture. The drink is served hot: reheat the amount you want in a saucepan, over low heat, or in the microwave in a suitable container. After opening, keep the carton in the refrigerator, between 0 and 6 degrees, and consume within 5 days. Maison Renée suggests pairing it with a brioche, as in the Antillean tradition of pain au beurre.
What to pair it with?
To vary the formats, there is also the CHOCOLAT ELOT powdered communion chocolate, a Martinican version to prepare yourself. A BÉGUÉ coconut biscuit pairs well with a cup of hot chocolate. Discover other sweet products and drinks from the Antilles in our Antillean grocery.
