MAGGI Arôme is Nestlé's liquid seasoning, in its brown bottle with a red cap. A few drops are enough to lift a sauce, a rice dish or a marinade. This is the 160 mL bottle sold in France and Belgium.
What is Maggi Arôme?
A very dark brown liquid, with a salty, umami taste and a note of lovage, a plant related to celery. It contains flavour enhancers, including monosodium glutamate. It does not exist in powder form: it is a liquid, not to be confused with stock cubes or powder. In West African cooking, it often complements the stock, which gives the base of the dish, to adjust the seasoning at the end of cooking.
How to use it?
Add it at the end of cooking or directly on the plate, a few drops at a time, tasting as you go. It lifts a riz gras, a tomato sauce, a peanut sauce, an omelette or a chicken marinade. It is very salty, 28.47 g of salt per 100 mL: as the label reminds you, there is no need to add extra salt.
What to pair it with?
For a spicy version, the MAGGI Hot Arôme. For the base of your sauces, the JUMBO chicken stock. The recipes for riz gras and poulet yassa are on the blog. The whole section: African and Caribbean spices and condiments.
