Kpele powder NUMBER ONE is made from dried kpele, already finely ground. In West Africa, it is used to bind and thicken simmered sauces, in the same way as gombo or lalo. 100 g pouch.
What is kpele powder?
Kpele is a traditional West African ingredient, sold by NUMBER ONE as a powder or as whole dried leaves. It belongs to the family of sauce thickeners, such as gombo, lalo (baobab leaves) or fakoye (jute leaves), without being any of these products: NKOSI sells each one separately.
How to use it?
- Dilute a small amount of powder in a little water or hot broth, to avoid lumps.
- Add this mixture to your sauce at the end of cooking.
- Stir until you get the desired thickened consistency: a small dose is enough to thicken a sauce.
Kpele powder goes with foutou, rice and simmered meat or fish dishes.
What to pair it with?
Find other West African sauce thickeners in the Gombo, Ogbono and Sauce Thickeners collection, or the unground version with NUMBER ONE whole kpele.
