NUMBER ONE ginger powder is a rhizome of Zingiber officinale, dried then finely ground. It brings its spicy warmth to marinades, sauces and pastries, savoury as well as sweet. 100 g bag.
What is ginger powder?
Ginger is the rhizome of a tropical plant, Zingiber officinale, dried then ground into a fine, light powder, whitish to light beige. It goes by other names depending on the region: dinjar or jinjër in Wolof, niamahu in Bambara, tangawizi in Swahili. Its taste is spicy and warm, with a slightly lemony touch, more concentrated than fresh ginger.
How to use it?
A pinch is enough to flavour a dish: mix it into your meat or chicken marinades, your sauces and curries, or your simmered dishes. Ginger powder also goes into pastries and gingerbread, and blends into fruit juice for a homemade drink. Count on half a teaspoon to start, as ginger powder is more concentrated than fresh grated root.
What to pair it with?
Pair it with NUMBER ONE turmeric powder in your marinades and curries, or follow the recipe for African ginger juice for a spiced homemade drink. The recipe for ginger tea details another way to use it as an infusion. The whole range: West African cuisine.
