What is djeka?
Djeka is the vernacular name, mainly used in Côte d'Ivoire, for the plant Alchornea cordifolia, a shrub of Africa's tropical forests and forest galleries, which readily grows along riverbanks. It is also locally known as "coller serrer". Infused, its dried leaves give a drink with a vegetal, slightly woody taste.
How to prepare it?
Use a small handful of dried leaves, about 5 to 10, for 500 ml of water. Bring to the boil for 10 to 15 minutes, then strain before serving. The herbal tea is drunk hot or warm, plain.
