This tin of ROYAL BOURBON pois du Cap is already cooked and seasoned Creole-style: just heat it up to accompany rice, a curry or a simmered meat. The pois du Cap, also called Lima bean, is a staple of Réunion cuisine. 400 g tin, 225 g drained.
What is pois du Cap?
Pois du Cap is the Réunion and Mauritian name for the Lima bean (Phaseolus lunatus), a large, flat-grained legume, native to Central and South America and now grown throughout the tropics. It is also found under the name haricot du Cap. In the Creole cuisines of the Indian Ocean, it is the “grain” served with rice, curry and rougail. This ROYAL BOURBON version is already cooked and then seasoned with vegetable oil, spices and aromatics: a light seasoning, not a thick sauce.
How to use it?
Heat the contents of the tin in a saucepan, over low heat, stirring from time to time. Serve with white rice, in the manner of a traditional Creole dish: these beans go just as well with a simmered meat, a grilled sausage or fish. Once the tin is opened, keep the rest in the fridge in a closed container and consume it quickly.
What to pair it with?
To make a complete Réunion meal, pair them with ROYAL BOURBON kidney beans or ROYAL BOURBON white beans for a change of grain, or with the ROYAL BOURBON pois du Cap with smoked pork version for a smoky flavor. The whole Réunion grocery is brought together in its collection.
