A chewing gum, not a jelly sweet
The word "sweets" on the bag can be misleading: Bubble Melon are actually a chewing gum, with a gum base and a coating of beeswax, carnauba wax and shellac, which gives the hard, shiny shell typical of coated chewing gum pellets. Green and oval, they take the shape of a small melon. They are chewed, unlike the jelly sweets Banana Cool or Fraise Tendre from the same brand.
A halal chewing gum
SAMIA is a halal brand distributed in France by Haudecœur. The range, including these Bubble Melon, is certified by the Société Française de Contrôle de Viande Halal (SFCVH), whose logo appears on the bag.
What do they contain?
Sugar, gum base, glucose syrup, citric acid, dextrose, flavourings, glycerol and sorbitol, sunflower lecithin, a vegetable concentrate of lemon and safflower, calcium phosphate, a coating of shellac, beeswax, carnauba wax and olive oil, the antioxidant BHA, and colours E100 and E133.
