BÉGUÉ tamarind sweets are a Senegalese confectionery, a hard candy flavoured with tangy tamarind pulp, sold in a large 400 g bag. Made in Senegal by CONFISEN under the registered BÉGUÉ brand, they are eaten as they are, at any time of day.
What is tamarind?
Tamarind is the fruit of the tamarind tree (Tamarindus indica), native to the dry tropical regions of East Africa and now grown across Africa, South Asia and the Caribbean. Its pulp, both sour and high in sugar, gives sauces, drinks and sweets a distinctly tangy flavour. It is used in chutneys and drinks such as tamarindade, popular in the Caribbean and on Réunion Island.
How is it eaten?
BÉGUÉ tamarind sweets are eaten straight from the bag, after a meal or as a sweet treat. The large 400 g size is handy for filling a candy bowl or sharing with family. Caribbean tradition also has a spiced version of the tamarind sweet (tamarind pulp and chilli): this BÉGUÉ bag offers only the plain version, without chilli.
What to pair it with?
The BÉGUÉ brand offers its hard candies in several flavours, including BÉGUÉ ginger sweets. To keep exploring Senegalese treats, head to the confectionery and exotic treats section. In the same section: BÉGUÉ Mint sweets.
